About New Forest Psychiatry

New Forest Psychiatry is an independently operated service established in 2022 by Dr Robert Gordon, specialising in the assessment, treatment, support and prevention of mental disorders (including adult ADHD and adult autistic spectrum disorder). The service also helps individuals in these situations to reach their full potential, also addressing burnout prevention.

The mission of the practice is to offer comprehensive and high-quality support to individuals facing challenges with their mental health and mental disorders.

Dr Robert Gordon completed his medical degree at Imperial College London in 2011 and became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2018. His approach emphasises proactive measures to prevent mental illness by aiding individuals in realising their full potential, alongside providing treatment and assistance to those already grappling with mental health issues. Dr Gordon is also deeply committed to the prevention and management of burnout.

Dr Gordon has practiced as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the NHS since 2011 and has a wealth of experience in working with patients across a spectrum of mental disorders. His expertise extends to anxiety disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and generalised anxiety disorder, as well as mood disorders like bipolar affective disorder and depressive disorders. Additionally, he offers adult autism assessments and provides guidance and support following diagnosis, along with the assessment, treatment, and support for adult ADHD.

The service also has a personal story: Dr Gordon built the New Forest Psychiatry service after being inspired by his son who was diagnosed with an autistic spectrum disorder and ADHD, as well as the hundreds of patients he has supported. As per the company values, the service is committed to quality and innovation, integrity, collaboration and respect in all that the service does.

I recently attended an initial ADHD assessment with Dr Gordon and had a really positive experience. From the start, he was welcoming, friendly and easy to talk to, which helped put me at ease as I was a bit nervous about the appointment. He took the time to listen carefully and asked thoughtful questions, allowing me to explain my experiences without feeling rushed. I felt that he genuinely wanted to understand my situation and was very patient throughout the assessment. The whole process felt professional but also very supportive. Overall, it was a really comfortable and reassuring first step in the assessment process, and I’m very glad I had the appointment with Dr Gordon.

I requested a pre-consultation to gauge if Dr Gordon and I would be a good fit for the support I am looking for. It a 20 minute video call offered free of charge which I was grateful for. I found the call a little frustrating. There seemed to be some miscommunication/misunderstandings but this takes time to form and I think can be harder over video call versus in person. I have some hesistation and caution around having a face to face appointment but I am hopeful that with a longer amount time and when I shared more of my needs and history that we can work in a collaborative way.

Only useful as a diagnostic service. No aftercare. No ADHD treatment. No anxiety treatment. No alternative to therapy or the one therapist they use.

Thank you very much for your time with providing feedback, this is appreciated by the service. However, this feedback is inaccurate and does not reflect the service we provide, which could be misleading for other patients. The service offers an assessment, diagnostic and post-diagnostic therapeutic management service where it is safe to do so; and, including post-diagnostic care for mood and anxiety disorders; stress disorders (PTSD/c-PTSD); personality disorders; and, both ADHD and autism spectrum disorder. The service has resident practitioners, but service users are also empowered and supported to find alternative therapists should this be felt to be more preferable; and, which is provided in the spirit of patient-centred and collaborative support. Please feel free to contact the service to discuss this further, and thank you again for your feedback.
