About Mr Aruna Munasinghe
Mr. Aruna Munasinghe is a Consultant General Laparoscopic Surgeon, with a special interest in Upper GI and Weight Loss Surgery. He has an NHS base at Bedfordshire Hospitals where he is the Clinical Lead for Safety and Clinical Governance, and the welfare of his patients' is at the heart of all of his practice.
Mr. Munasinghe qualified from Guy's & St Thomas's Hospital, and has enjoyed outstanding Postgraduate Training in London, the South East and the West Midlands. He undertook a period of research at Imperial College London and a fellowship in Bariatric and Complex Upper GI Surgery at St George's Hospital, London.
In addition to maintaining high standards in his NHS and Private Practice, he is also a passionate educator and is a trainer in Bariatric Surgery, Keyhole Hernia Repair, Trauma and Endoscopy.
Mr. Munasinghe is pleased to offer a large range of common general surgical procedures which will be performed through a keyhole route wherever possible to minimise pain and for a faster recovery. His main areas of interest are in the treatment of Obesity, Reflux Disease, Gallstones and Hernia. He is happy to see patients of varying complexity, for both primary and revision (redo-) procedures.

Dr Munasinghe was very approachable, thorough and listened
I was able to see Mr Munasinghe very soon after a Gallbladder flare up and he was very knowledgeable in explaining to me the situation I was in regarding the timeline to having my gallbladder removed due to inflammation. He allowed me time to think over my decision and once in hospital, he clearly explained the procedure and any risks that would be involved. Instead of being a day case, I was kept in overnight due to the length of my operation and I was very grateful that Mr Munasinghe made this decision for me. I felt complete confidence in his approach and his explanations, he has a really great bedside manner and I am so pleased that I chose him to perform my Cholecystectomy.
I had an appointment with Mr Munasinghe in February regarding an issue with my stomach which was suspected to be a hernia. Mr Munasinghe did a thorough examination and asked lots of questions regarding pain, discomfort and how it may have occurred. He listened patiently and although I was not presenting in the normal hernia way he explained he believed it be an unusual type. We discussed surgery dates and the location. I left feeling relieved that I was being listened to and understood what the next steps were. The operation was completed and Mr Munasinghe visited me the next morning to say he was pleased with the surgery. This made me feel confident of a full recovery. After 8 weeks I had a follow up appointment and although I was worried it had not worked Mr Munasinghe reassured me that all was normal and the surgery had done its job. He was extremely professional, friendly and courteous every time I dealt with him. He made me feel listened to and I felt confident he understood my issues.
