Mr Harun Thomas

A pioneer in the field of Breast Surgery, Harun Thomas was one of the first surgeons in the UK to successfully complete both the Masters in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, Europe’s highest qualification in the discipline, and the prestigious UK National TIG Oncoplastic fellowship. Mr Thomas is a Consultant in Breast Surgery at Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where he carries out more than 250 breast cancer surgeries annually and sees over 1,500 women with breast symptoms each year. 

With a specialisation exclusively in breast surgery, Mr. Thomas covers a comprehensive range of services, including the treatment of breast cancer, benign breast diseases, family history of breast cancer, risk-reducing mastectomy, breast reconstruction, and implant-based surgery. His particular interest lies in therapeutic mammaplasty, using plastic surgical techniques to achieve optimal outcomes following breast cancer surgery and using ultrasound during surgery to improve patient experience and outcome.

In addition to performing a wide variety of breast surgical procedures, such as mastectomy, breast conservation, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and therapeutic mammaplasty, he also evaluates breast lumps, pain, and nipple discharge, and treats pregnancy-associated breast problems and male breast diseases like gynaecomastia.

Mr. Thomas served as President of the UK Breast Surgery Trainees Association (The Mammary Fold) and as an Ex-officio committee member of the Association of Breast Surgery, UK, from 2014-2015. He is also a faculty member for the Masters in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery at the University of East Anglia and runs a one-stop breast clinic at Spire Wellesley Hospital and Springfield hospital for those seeking expert consultation.
