He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a member of both the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH). Committed to surgical education, Mr Chan is a GMC-recognised trainer and serves on the Education and Training Committee of BSSH. He serves as Deputy Editor of the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery and peer-reviewer for other international journals.
