Mr Niv Bhamber is a highly skilled Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in knee surgery. His NHS practice is based at Milton Keynes University Hospital, where he manages the full spectrum of knee problems, from sports injuries in younger, active patients to complex arthritis and revision knee replacement in older adults. He provides care for both elective and trauma-related knee conditions.
Mr Bhamber’s medical training began at University College London, followed by foundation training in the Oxford deanery. He subsequently completed Orthopaedic Core Training in Nottingham and higher surgical training on the South West London Orthopaedic Training Programme, gaining broad experience at major centres including St George’s Hospital and SWELEOC in London.
After completing his orthopaedic training, Mr Bhamber undertook advanced specialist knee and sports fellowships to refine his expertise. These include the Royal College of Surgeons Sports Knee and Arthroplasty Fellowship and the Royal Berkshire Specialist Knee Fellowship. He then completed the world-renowned Patellofemoral Fellowship in Bristol, where he treated complex patellofemoral problems such as anterior knee pain, kneecap maltracking and recurrent patellar dislocations.
These fellowships have equipped him with advanced skills in limb alignment and osteotomy, ligament reconstruction (including ACL and multi-ligament surgery), meniscal repair and joint preservation procedures, as well as the management of complex knee instability and deformity.
In parallel, Mr Bhamber has dedicated significant time to knee arthroplasty (joint replacement) surgery at leading specialist centres, including the Avon Orthopaedic Centre in Bristol, the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford and the Knee Reconstruction Unit in Exeter. His work in these units focused on total knee replacement, unicompartmental (partial) knee replacement, complex revision knee surgery and the use of cutting-edge techniques such as robotic-assisted knee replacement.
He was subsequently appointed as a Locum Consultant in Exeter, specialising in advanced knee replacement surgery, before taking up his substantive post as a Knee Consultant at Milton Keynes University Hospital. In his current role he is the Knee Lead for the National Joint Registry, participates in the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework and is actively involved in teaching and supervision of orthopaedic trainees.
Mr Bhamber’s clinical practice encompasses:
He is a member of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK), the British Patellofemoral Society (BPFS) and the Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery (CAOS) group, reflecting his commitment to specialist knee practice and modern, technology-enhanced surgery.
Above all, Mr Bhamber is committed to providing individualised, evidence-based care. He places strong emphasis on clear explanation, open communication and shared decision-making, so that each patient fully understands their diagnosis and treatment options and can return to the activities that matter most to them.

Dr Bhamber was excellent! My recent knee surgery was a huge success, and his warm, reassuring manner immediately made me feel safe and comfortable. He takes the time to truly listen and genuinely cares about his patients. Would 100% recommend.
A friendly and professional engagement, answered all my questions with honesty, authenticity and understanding.
Clear explanations of my procedure and predicted longer term outlook post arthroscopy surgery provided.
I have had knee problems since I was 13 years old and have seen numerous specialist with no set answer to my issues. I first saw Dr Bhamber back in November and he was the most thorough consultant I have ever seen. He took his time to analyse my scan and assess the knee and was able to tell me exactly what had been causing me issues all these years. He then gave me a step by step plan of options for treatments. He then operated on the knee in the coming months. He listened to my fears regarding the operation and was very accommodating. My follow up appointment he took his time to go through my arthroscopy with me and explained all the issues and how he fixed them. He saw me a further two times to check how I was progressing. I can categorically say I have never had a consultant be so thorough with me and listen to everything I needed and be as supportive as Dr Bhamber. I can’t recommend him enough to anyone especially those who have had prelonged issues without getting answers!
I’m not typically a review leaving person, however! I can not recommend Dr Bhamber highly enough, he’s clearly very knowledgeable, patient, concise in his explanations, very personable resulting in an impeccable bedside manner. Thank you Dr Bhamber for all your help.
I recently needed a partial knee replacement and was recommended to Dr Bhamber and am so pleased that I was. He is truly exceptional. Every detail was explained as were all of the options aavailable including possible drawbacks. The surgery was carried out promptly and efficiently and all follow up was first class. No query was too minor and every concern that I had was clearly addressed. Not only is Dr Bhamber an exceptional surgeon but he is a really kind and considerate man. I cannot thank him enough or recommend more highly. Thank you so much
Superb experience, Dr Bhamber was brilliant throughout. Explained everything clearly, did a brilliant operation and fantastic result. If I ever need my other knee replacing will request Dr Bhamber.
Mr Bhamber is very personable guy, he's done a fantastic job fixing my knee, I have always felt very at ease with him
"I had a partial knee replacement with Dr Bhamber and cannot recommend him highly enough. From the initial consultation to the final check-up, the care was exceptional. The staff were professional, friendly, and made me feel completely at ease. I am now eight weeks post-op and the results are fantastic, far exceeding my expectations. The facility was clean and well-organised.
I’m very happy to endorse Niv Bhamber, an outstanding Orthopaedic Surgeon. Niv combines excellent technical skill with sound clinical judgement and a calm, thoughtful approach to patient care. He communicates clearly, treats patients with genuine empathy, and works seamlessly within multidisciplinary teams. Colleagues value his reliability and professionalism, and patients consistently remark on the confidence and reassurance he inspires. A surgeon you’d trust with your own family — which, in medicine, is about the highest compliment there is.
