Mr Omer Alanie is a dual fellowship-trained Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham. His practice is dedicated exclusively to the knee, managing the full spectrum of conditions from sports injuries to complex arthritis. He runs a tertiary-level NHS practice, frequently receiving regional referrals for challenging knee problems.
His expertise includes the management of ligament injuries such as ACL, meniscus, and cartilage tears, kneecap dislocation, and articular cartilage damage. For younger, active patients with knee arthritis, he offers re-alignment (osteotomy) surgery to improve function and delay the need for joint replacement. For advanced arthritis, he performs both partial and total knee replacement surgery, including robotically assisted procedures.
Mr Alanie graduated with Honours from the University of Glasgow in 2011 and completed orthopaedic training in Glasgow and Newcastle. He was awarded a Masters in Surgical Sciences with Distinction from the University of Edinburgh for his research and obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2021. He subsequently completed fellowships in Liverpool and Birmingham, as well as the British Orthopaedic Association Chatterjee Travelling Fellowship in Europe.
Committed to research and education, he has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles, presents internationally, and is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow.
